If I could describe my high school years in one word it would be So-so. It may look like two words but I enjoyed 2 years and hated 2 years. I hear adults say all the time, "If I could go back and change the things I did in the past I would." And now I can say that same thing because I believe I would be more than what I am now at age 21.
If I would tell someone about my high school years I would tell them to stay on your toes, as my high school softball coach would tell me. Staying on your toes meant to be progressive and aggressive to learning. I've transferred to 3 different high schools and it was very hard to adapt to the learning system provided because they were all in different neighborhoods. It's sad that the neighborhoods I lived in determined the education I was receiving. I moved from what they called the "Ghetto" to a high educated neighborhood, where like at Year Up Bay Area they correct your English as soon as it leaves your mouth. Gym class was the only class I enjoyed at every school I went to. When I went to the higher educated school it seemed as if I didn't fit in mostly because it wasn't many students of African American descent. I tried my best to speak the way everyone spoke and collect the extra gadgets they collected, but it never worked out. Being myself in any atmosphere or community was always the key to my success but being someone I wasn't gave me the High School Blues.
